Heavy rainfall overnight has resulted in localised road flooding around Annacotty and Lisnagry following a significant increase in river levels from the Mulcair as well as high levels in the River Shannon. Mountshannon Road and Mulcair Drive are impassable at certain locations. Motorists are asked to drive with extreme caution in the affected areas and to take alternative routes.
As rivers levels are now falling, the impacts will decrease throughout the day.
ESB discharge rates from Parteen Weir are still at high levels (280 cumecs) and it should be noted that these could be increased again over the next five days based on the latest ESB forecast.
Staff from Limerick City and County Council are still present on site in the impacted areas and continue to co-ordinate the flood response and will remain so until water levels have sufficiently abated.
We are currently in a period of significant high tides this week (peaking on Wednesday 10 Mar 2020) Limerick City and County Council will continue to monitor predicted levels in the estuary to ensure that sufficient measures are in place should conditions change.
Based on the current forecast, flooding at the city centre quays and strands is not expected.
Meanwhile the road in Castleconnell from Charco’s to World’s End and Castleconnell Boat Club remains closed as do the Red Path in Corbally and the cycleway/ walkway from Irish Estates, through to the Guinness Bridge, and onwards to UL.
