Council urging disposal of Christmas trees in an environmentally friendly way

  • Christmas Trees

Special drop-off points for trees early in New Year.

Limerick City and County Council is encouraging all households to dispose of their real Christmas trees in an environmentally friendly way this season.

As the festive season comes to an end, thousands of trees will be disposed of across the city and county.

The Council-run recycling centres in Mungret, Kilmallock and Newcastle West will accept Christmas Trees for the month of January.

Opening days and hours for the three Civic Amenity Centres can be found at Limerick.ie.

The facility at Gortadroma in County Limerick will also accept Christmas trees. Please contact 069 82339 for opening hours.

In addition, Limerick City and County Council is setting up three additional collection points where people can drop off their Christmas trees for recycling.

The collection points will be open from 9.30am until 3pm on the following days and locations:

  • Friday 7th January 2022 – Our Lady of Lourdes Community Centre on Childers Road
  • Saturday 8th January 2022 – Watch House Cross Complex, Moyross (near the recycling banks)
  • Saturday 15th January 2022 – Musgrave’s Market Centre Car Park, Park Road, Limerick

All tress will be shredded for use as bark mulch across the various parks in Limerick.
