Social housing applicants in Limerick will have to declare if they wish to remain on the local authority housing list as part of a Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government assessment to determine a true and accurate need across the country.
Applicants must return forms or face prospect of losing place on housing list
Limerick City and County Council is obliged to carry out a Summary of Social Housing Assessment (SSHA) for 2018 and has written to all relevant applicants. Each applicant will be requested to confirm their current housing need and will be required to submit the completed application form.
Applicants will also be requested to submit copies of supporting documentation in the event of a change of circumstances since they were last assessed. All applicants must return the FREEPOST form by Friday 09 February 2018.
Anyone written to must return the completed form and evidence of their income. This can consist of three original pay slips if in employment or original Department of Social Protection (DSP) payment receipts.
If income details not submitted the entire form will be returned. This applies to everyone on the housing application over 18 years old.
Under the departmental directive, failure to do so will result in the case being closed and the applicant being removed from the housing list.
Those assessed as part of the SSHA in 2017 will not be included this year’s review, while all HAP tenants, RAS tenants and applicants for a social housing transfer are also excluded.
All councillors have been notified of the Summary of Social Housing Assessment and are encouraged to remind any applicants of its existence and that it is imperative to complete the form and return it to avoid losing their place on the list.
Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Stephen Keary said: “It is vitally important that the applicants who want to stay on the list contact Limerick City and County Council by the deadline.”
“We’re all aware of the housing shortage around the country and we need to know exactly what the requirement is if we are to address it properly.”
The Summary of Social Housing Assessment form has been sent to those on the list by Limerick City and County Council and must be returned by post to the Community Support Services, Limerick City and County Council, Merchant’s Quay, Limerick by the 9th February”.
