Domestic Waste Water Sludge Removal

If your home or premises is connected to a domestic waste water treatment system (DWWTS), such as a septic tank, then you should have the sewage sludge removed at appropriate intervals.

This will depend on the size of your system and the number of people in the house. Sewage Sludge removal is required to be undertaken typically between one and two year intervals (unless otherwise recommended by the manufacturer).

Your system should be emptied by an authorised waste collector. As a homeowner, you should get a receipt from the authorised contractor each time your tank is emptied and you should keep the receipt for five years.

A list of authorised waste collectors in your area can be obtained from the National Waste Collection Permit Office website by logging on at www.nwcpo.ie and carrying out the following steps: 

  1. Click on “Permit Search”. 
  2. Click on “Quick Search” and select “Septic Tank Desludging”.  
  3. Click on “Select Counties” and select “Limerick City and County”. 
  4. Click on the WCP number/NWCPO reference (in blue) to gain access to contact details of your local Septic Tank Waste Collector.
