In December 2017 County Limerick’s hotel offering grew with the opening of the four star Longcourt House Hotel in Newcastle West.

Located where the Courtney Lodge Hotel and The River Room Motel previously stood, it is a five minute walk to the centre of the bustling and vibrant town.

“Business has been very positive, with incredible numbers coming through the door. With an operation such as this, and the instant demand for the product, we have chosen to start simple and will be adding to our selection and variety of menus as we go,” said Triona Dore, Sales & Marketing Manager of the Longcourt House Hotel.

“The response has been phenomenal, whilst we anticipated high levels of business through the Christmas period, the numbers achieved were beyond our expectations. We are very grateful to everyone who has visited the hotel during the 10 weeks since we opened.”

Employing 75 staff, the hotel has 39 tastefully decorated rooms and can accommodate conferences and meetings for 500 delegates.

The Longcourt is also hoping to offer a new venue for couples planning their big day. “Our first wedding celebration is due to take place this February,” said Triona.

Owners Jim Long and Mary Sheppard are West Limerick natives. Now based in London, they have maintained their strong connections with the area and when the opportunity came to develop a new hotel for the area they jumped at it.

“I think Limerick has a fantastic offering for tourists, from rambling country walks, to outdoor water pursuits, fantastic dining and shopping options, there is much to see and do in this fabulous county,” said Triona.

“Limerick City and County Council have always been very supportive of our project and recognised the importance of redeveloping the hotel to Newcastle West and the surrounding areas.

“Since opening the hotel we have met some brilliant people doing trojan work in Limerick tourism and it feels like a really exciting time to be involved in the sector,” concluded Triona.
