Orion by Ripplecom, the autofailover, engineered in-house by Ripplecom engineers and unique to the Limerick-based telecommunications company, has been shortlisted for the 2018 Tech Excellence Awards.
Now in their eighteenth year, the Tech Excellence Awards are the most prestigious accolades in Ireland’s IT industry. The awards recognise transformational technology that delivers outstanding operational and competitive advantages to Irish companies.
Migration to the cloud means that, these days, businesses have very little tolerance for downtime. Reflecting this new reality, Ripplecom’s engineering team created Orion, a clever, compact and cost-effective autofailover. Each Orion is created with two network connections - one primary and one secondary. Usually, all internet traffic uses the primary connection but when an outage strikes, all connected systems and devices switch quickly and smoothly to the secondary line.
Larger companies have long been aware of the crucial nature of resilience, undertaking infrastructural builds to guarantee redundancy in the case of network failure or unavailability.
