Education

Early days: Limerick has an excellent choice of crèche, pre-school and Montessori facilities catering for babies and toddlers. Established in 2014 the Limerick Childcare Committee is the central point of information for childcare providers and parents in Limerick City on all matters relating to Early Years Care and Information.

Schools: Limerick is home to the country’s number one secondary school, the all-girls Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ was ranked the top post primary school in Ireland for two years running. Limerick city has an excellent choice of both primary and secondary schools with a total of 33 primary schools and 15 secondary schools in the city alone. There are a further 107 primary schools and 17 post primary schools in Limerick County.

Third Level: There are three universities and three Institutes of Technology within the Limerick catchment area, providing a student cohort of 67,000, which results in approximately 21,000 highly skilled graduates every year.

Directly located within the region, the University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College and Limerick Institute of Technology provide cutting edge research and development links.

The University of Limerick has over 15,000 students. Almost 5,000 students attend Limerick Institute of Technology.

Limerick School of Art and Design, which is listed among the top 50 fashion schools in the world and has produced many famous alumni including designers Joanne Hynes, Miriam Mone, actor Pat Shortt and artist John Shinnors.
