Conditions of Entry - Limerick Edge Embrace Photography Competition 2020

  1. The Limerick Edge Embrace Photography competition 2020 will run from Tuesday 22 September 2020 to Monday 12 October 2020.

  3. The competition will close at midnight on 12 October 2020. Entries received after this time will not be included.
  4. Failure to complete any section of the entry form will deem your entry ineligible and your image(s) will not be included.
  5. All images submitted must have been taken in Limerick City or County and must capture your interpretation of Limerick’s edge and/or embrace.
  6. Images must have been taken between January 2019 and October 2020.
  7. The competition is divided into two categories with one overall winner in each category. For the purposes of the competition, the definition ‘amateur’ refers to a person who does not earn an income from their photography or photographic services.
    1. Amateur Prize: €1,000 voucher for Whelan Cameras
    2. Professional Prize: Month long billboard display for winning photo
  8. Images submitted under Professional category must ideally be landscape in orientation to allow for reproduction on billboard display.
  9. On request, the overall winner of the professional category must provide Limerick City and County Council with a high quality version of the winning image suitable for reproduction on billboard display.
  10. Prizes are non-transferable. A cash alternative will not be awarded in lieu of stated prizes.
  11. Entry is restricted to people aged 18 years and over.
  12. Entries must be in JPEG format, with a minimum size of 1MB.
  13. All images submitted must be the photographer’s own work. You are responsible for making sure that any image submitted has been taken with the permission of the subject and does not infringe the copyright of any third party or any laws. Images submitted may not include any element that is the copyright of another.
  14. If the photograph includes anyone under the age of 18, it is your responsibility to obtain necessary written permission from a parent or guardian to take their photograph and submit it for this competition. This must be available on request by Limerick City and County Council.
  15. Any incomplete, offensive, defamatory, indecent or illegible entries will be considered void and will not be included.
  16. Images must not contain watermark, logo or text.
  17. Altering a photograph will lead to exclusion from the competition where the integrity of the photograph is compromised.
  18. A maximum of five entries per photographer is permitted. Online form must be completed for each image.
  19. A photographer may submit their image(s) under one category only. The same image must not be entered in more than one category. This includes altered and unaltered images.
  20. By entering the competition and submitting your photograph(s) you hereby agree for Limerick City and County Council to use your photograph(s) for the purpose of this competition and in the future promotion of Limerick without additional compensation. This includes, but is not limited to use online, social media, digital display and print media.
  21. When a photograph is submitted and entry finalised the entry cannot be changed or edited.
  22. Where an image is used by Limerick City and County Council the photographer will be credited where possible. Inclusion of any such credit cannot be guaranteed in all instances.
  23. Limerick City and County Council reserves the right to crop any images submitted, at our discretion, in order to fit the overall design and format.
  24. For future promotional purposes, Limerick City and County Council reserves the right to apply basic enhancements to any images submitted, at our discretion, which may include brightness, contrast, sharpening etc.
  25. Up to ten entries from each category will be shortlisted by a panel of judges. The panel will select entries anonymously and will not be supplied with the photographer's name.
  26. The judging panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  27. Finalists will be contacted by email in advance of the shortlist being published.
  28. One winner from each category (Amateur and Professional) will be selected by public vote through’s Facebook account.
  29. The overall winner from each category may be asked to take part in publicity (including but not limited to online, social and print media) for promotional purposes.
  30. Employees and councillors of Limerick City and County Council are not eligible to take part in the competition, nor are their immediate family members. For these purposes an "immediate family member" includes a spouse, partner, child, step child, grandchild, brother, step brother, sister, step sister, parent, step parent or legal guardian.
  31. Entry to the competition confirms that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by the conditions of entry.
  32. Limerick City and County Council does not accept any responsibility for any technical issues experienced by entrants which may result in submissions being lost or not delivered by the specified closing date.
  33. Limerick City and County Council reserves the right to cancel/modify/suspend prize(s), and/or vary conditions of entry at any time without prior notice.

Data Protection

  1. By providing their email address entrants agree to being contacted by Limerick City and County Council in relation to this competition.
  2. All personal data collected in the running of this competition will be governed by GDPR and other Irish data protection legislation.
  3. Personal data provided by competition entrants will be retained by Limerick City and County Council for a maximum period of seven years following competition closing date to deal with any queries that may arise.
