Local sports fans won’t have to choose between their two favourite sports this weekend as the inaugural Limerick World Club 7s, which will feature over 34 action-packed rugby 7s matches over two days, will erect agiant screen in the new fanzone at the front of Thomond Park Stadium to ensure that no sports fan will miss seeing live coverage of the GAA All-Ireland hurling semi-final between Limerick and Kilkenny.

The Limerick and Kilkenny hurling teams will be in an all-Ireland semi-final on screen and, for the first time ever in Ireland, high performance club 7s from some of the top clubs on earth will be on show in the flesh.

Sunday will allow sports enthusiasts soak up some of the world’s best 7s action from the main pitch at Thomond Park with 16 games between teams such as Auckland, Fiji’s Daveta, Stade Français, Saracens, last weekend’s Super 15s winners, Michael Cheika’s NSW Waratahs and the beloved Munster Rugby.

Rugby 7s is one of the fastest growing – and speediest – sports but not quite as speedy however as the fastest field sport in the world, which, at 4pm on Sunday 10th August will be shown live on a giant screen at the front of Thomond Park! The action between the hurling heroes of Limerick and the Kilkenny cats will be shown live and when the final whistle is blown, the fans in Thomond Park can head back into the main pitch to witness the final match of the Limerick World Club 7s tournament.

The Limerick World Club 7s is set to be a major sporting event in the calendar for the next five years and in its first year it has embraced the sense of sportsmanship and festival spirit that makes Limerick city and county stand out from the crowd.

Rugby 7s festivals are not just known for the super-exciting rugby, but also for the entertainment, fun and fantastic atmosphere that they bring with them and Thomond Park will be no different with plenty of colour and costumes expected on the 9th and 10th August. The theme for the first Limerick World Club 7s is ‘Superheroes’, giving festival-goers plenty of inspiration for costume ideas.

The organisers of Limerick World Club 7s understand the great tradition and love of sport in Limerick.

“We are very grateful to the GAA for allowing us show the game,” said Tim Magee of Limerick World Club 7s. “Our tournament is packed with the some of biggest club names in rugby history and in Carlin Isles we have the world’s fastest player, so there will be non stop action on the pitch over the two days of Limerick World Club 7s, but we’re delighted to be able to bring all the action from Croke Park to the fans too.

"Thomond Park makes a brilliant setting for anyone into sport on Sunday August 10th – it’s the best of 7s rugby and the best of hurling in a wonderful family-friendly setting. We wish TJ Ryan and the ‘Superheroes’ of Limerick the very best on Sunday too - we will all be supporting the lads from Thomond Park.”

Tickets for the Limerick World Club 7s are still available here and from Thomond Park stadium starting from €15 you can enjoy a day of excellent rugby, exciting hurling and festival fun, and experience the very best in international and national sport.
