Hospital County Limerick

Hospital is a town located in the south east of County Limerick on the R513, the 'Old Cork Road'.

With a population of approx. 1206 people, the town has seen much development in recent years. There are a number of businesses and retails outlets in the town.

It is thought that the town acquired its name from the crusading Knights Hospitaller who built the archaeologically significant cathedral here in 1215, while another explanation is that the town derived its name from a hospital for Knights Templar, founded in 1226 by Geoffry de Marisco, then Lord-Justice of Ireland.

Hospital is renowned for its strong GAA sporting tradition; Hospital-Herbertstown teams have won a number of championship titles for both Hurling and Football in the past.

Nearby attractions include the Hospital Church and Lough Gur, its interpretative centre and walking trails.
