Presented by award-winning Dublin theatre company, Gúna Nua, in association with the Civic Theatre in Tallaght, The Goddess of Liberty is a touching and heart-breaking tale of family, friendship and survival among Irish immigrants in Alaska. Its gripping storyline covers themes with a contemporary relevance including emigration and economic meltdown.
The first play by award-winning actor and author, Karen Ardiff, The Goddess of Liberty has a strong cast, led by Geraldine Plunkett, well known for her role in Glenroe. Directed by Paul Meade the cast also includes Emma Colohan, Máire Ní Ghráinne and Megan Riordan.
Set in an archetypal boom-bust town, the play tells the story of two Irish immigrants Frankie and May who are waiting anxiously for May’s daughter T-Belle to return from her claim in the Chilkoot pass. However the gold seams are drying up, Frankie isn’t well and there are secrets and surprises everywhere; under the floorboards, down on the docks and in their heads.
