Limerick is a city where sport transcends all class boundaries and where ‘the docker and the doctor compete in the field of sport on an equal footing’.
The support and passion for sport are the key ingredients which have made Limerick Ireland’s true sporting capital.
Limerick is nationally acknowledged as having excellent sporting infrastructure and conferencing facilities.
These include the new greyhound stadium recently opened at a cost of €20m, this magnificent Thomond Park Stadium which opened in 2008, the Gaelic Grounds which hosted the Compromise rules games last October, the University of Limerick Sports Arena which was the major host to the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games, Limerick Racecourse, not to mention all the individual clubs activity providers swimming pools tennis clubs and Mountain bike trails in Ballyhoura.
