What's On
Foynes Irish Coffee Festival
Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd June
Foynes, County Limerick
The Foynes Irish Coffee Festival takes place on the June Bank Holiday weekend in the little village of Foynes, famous for the role it played in the 1940s when it became the hub for transatlantic travel during the era of the flying boats prior to the establishment of Shannon Airport.
It was, in fact, during this time on a cold dark winter's night in 1943 that Chef Joe Sheridan invented the world famous Irish Coffee - a drink created especially to warm up the weary passengers as they arrived after a very long flight.
The village comes to life in celebration during the festival weekend, with parades, fireworks, family fun days, street entertainers, live bands on the festival stage and the grand final of the world famous Irish Coffee Making Championship.
A great weekend of fun and excitement for the whole family - one not to be missed.
