Ballyhoura International Walking Festival
Saturday 5th - Monday 7th May
Kilfinnane, Co. Limerick and Surrounding Areas
The annual Ballyhoura International Walking Festival takes place from the 5th to the 7th May 2012.
The festival offers over 30 guided walks, led by people from local communities and the Ballyhoura Bears Walking Club. The schedule offers walks for all levels of ability from the undulating green pastures, woodlands and rolling hills to the high peaks of the Galty Mountains.
The area is a walkers paradise with unspoilt beauty and a variety of landscapes and there is something for everyone at this year’s festival, whether you enjoy a family day out or a serious hike.
The Ballyhoura Marathon Challenge will take place on Saturday 5th. It is a challenging marked 26.2mile route traversing forest track, open mountain and riverbanks through the scenic Ballyhoura Landscape. The challenge sees the participants return to Kilfinnane Education Centre for Showers and Dinner.
A new event to this year's Festival is the Ballyhoura Bears Mountain Navigation Challenge. The Ballyhoura Bears Mountain Navigation Challenge is for walkers with an interest in navigation and mountain skills.
The participants will plan and follow a route across the Ballyhouras completing mountain skills tasks along the way. Participants can enter as an individual or team of 2 at beginner or advanced level.
For all walks, boots, rucksack, waterproofs, packed lunch, hot drinks and a change of clothing for after the walk are recommended.
