The success of the Limerick Milk Market continues following its outstanding achievement at the Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) awards in Dublin.

The Awards ceremony, hosted by Miriam O’Callaghan, saw the Limerick Milk Market shine through to win the prestigious Best Heritage Project prize as well as being a finalist in the Best Community Based Initiative category.

 In accepting the award, Chairman of the Limerick Market Trustees, Councillor Michael Sheahan thanked the organising committee and judging panel but reserved a special word of thanks for the people of Limerick: "The Limerick Market Trustees vision was to enhance this historic market, weather-proofing it so that it would work better as a markets and event venue, all year-round.

The venue has been attracting increasing numbers of visitors to a wider range of markets and events. In addition to almost doubling visitors, the venue has successfully staged concerts, recitals, craft fairs, fashion shows, family-fun events, product launches, charity events and more, all adding to the vibrancy of the City and supporting a broad base of business.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all involved in the Project Committee, the continuing support of all the stakeholders in the Milk Market but especially the people of Limerick who continue to support the market every week".

The annual LAMA Awards ceremony commends individuals, initiatives, private companies and people for their outstanding contributions and projects of benefit to the community.

The Milk Market was nominated by Limerick County Council and beat off strong competition from a number of other projects throughout the country.
