Pery Square to Become Open Air Art Gallery
If you have an eye for art, you could well come away from Limerick’s Georgian Quarter with your very own treasure! On Sunday 16th September, Pery Square will be a rainbow of colour as it hosts a new free open-air art exhibition 'Art on the Park'.
Modelled on the well-established exhibition at Merrion Square, Dublin, the paintings will be displayed on the Pery Square railings of the People’s Park. The event will showcase some of Limerick’s best amenities, the Georgian Quarter, the Peoples’ Park and Limerick’s artistic talents.
The event is being co-ordinated by Patricia Roberts, from No.1 Pery Square Hotel and Limerick Art Society which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.
"The Georgian Quarter is a superb, tranquil setting for this artistic venture," Patricia Roberts explained. "A similar scheme has been running successfully in Merrion Square in Dublin for years- we want to raise the profile and showcase the Georgian Quarter of Limerick and Art on the Park is the perfect event to help us do so. We’re encouraging all Limerick artists and printmakers to take part; hopefully it will be a big success and become a regular sight in Pery Square."
Limerick artists will exhibit original paintings and limited edition prints in the 'Art on the Park' exhibition so visitors get to buy unique art directly from the artist. They also get to meet the artist, discuss their work and get an insight into their colourful occupation & life. All the family can enjoy art in this cultural setting and the artists are happy to talk about their work with passers by.
Pat O’Neill of Limerick Arts Society is keen for all artists to get involved, "We have a wealth of wonderful artists in Limerick and this is a perfect way for all local artists to showcase their work,” he said, "As Limerick is the first Irish City of Culture in 2014, we’re delighted to begin running a regular event like Art on the Park to profile our local artists and we’re hoping that the people of Limerick will come out and support our first such event on Sunday, September 16th."
The group hope that 'Art on the Park' will become a regular feature in Limerick and on a Sunday morning, many people will take a stroll around Pery Square when it becomes an open-air art gallery.
No commission is included in the price of the paintings so the prices are very reasonable with customers getting quality work straight from the hand of the artist. The exhibition will run from 10am-2pm.
Artists who wish to exhibit their work need to pick up a form in No.1 Pery Square reception or email email@example.com.
Artists fee to take part is €10 and the closing date for applications are September 10th 2012.
