Emerald AC is a thriving club serving the Limerick City environs with athletes from a wide radius of the region.
We are affiliated to the Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) and we compete in track & field, cross country and relay events.
We cater for children aged 8 to 18 and have some of best coaches in the country with a dual emphasis on fun as well as success.
In 2010 we had our most successful season for many years. The Emerald running top is now a fixture once again at all Munster and National juvenile athletic meetings, and the club is currently ranked in the Top 5 of competing juvenile clubs at Munster AAI events.
We enjoy our athletics hugely, we train well and we try to make a big impression wherever we compete around the country. Come and join us!

Garryowen Football Club was founded in Limerick in 1884, and takes its name from the Garryowen area of Limerick.
The word Garryowen – the gardens of John – relates to the association in the 12th century between St. John’s Church and the Knights Templar whose house in Limerick was dedicated to St. John the Baptist.
Garryowen FC have won the All Ireland League on three occasions, and throughout our 125-year history we have won the Munster Senior Cup thirty seven times, making us by far the most successful club in what is one of Ireland’s toughest and most prestigious competitions.
Garryowen players have represented Ireland throughout our history, with eight of these performing with distinction on various Lions and in many cases Barbarians sides. One of our most famous players is one of our favourite – 2002 World Rugby Player of the Year, Keith Wood. With David Wallace, he brought huge pride to all in the club following his performances in Australia for the Lions, in 2001, and of course on his first Lions tour to South Africa 1997.
Every position on the Irish team has been filled at some stage by a Garryowen player, underlining our commitment to a balance of tough forward play with a very open running style. This site will give you an opportunity to find out about current players, our ground breaking Academy – the only one of its kind in Ireland, keep in touch with what’s happening in the club, view fixtures and results, read match reports and to stay in contact with the club, whether you are in Limerick, or are one of our many members around the world.

Limerick swimming club consists of 3 squad groups. Swimmers are placed in groups according to ability. Progress through the various groups will be dependent upon the swimmer's development and attitude to training. Progression from squad to squad is dependent on time trial performance, commitment to training and input from the coaches.
Development Squad (C)
This squad is our usual entry group for young swimmers. They train four hours per week. The swimmer is introduced to competitive swimming in an enjoyable atmosphere that is not too far removed from what they would have been used to in their previous teaching club. Training is aerobically based with a small speed element. Attention is also paid to stroke analysis and correction.
At the beginning of the season, swimmers are segregated into lanes depending on ability. They would normally progress from basic level to preparation for entry to B Squad over a full season or so.
B Squad
This squad is the next step up from the Development (C) squad. They train 6 hours per week. Stroke development continues usually over the full range of swimming styles, although the coaches will begin to focus on specific abilities within individual swimmers and encourage the development of same. Swimmers themselves also begin to recognize their own competitive ability.
Attention is paid by the coaches to a range of physical attributes including the various elements of physical fitness and body adaptation as they relate to the swimmer's preferred strokes and/or distance.
A Squad
This squad trains approximately 8.5 hours per week. The intention here is to develop the swimmer to Munster, National or possibly International Level. Strong commitment is required for this group of swimmers. At this level, "swimming" would normally be the person's primary sporting commitment. Swimmers are expected to swim at all competitions for which they are selected.
Coaching becomes very specific in terms of stroke and whether the swimmer is suited to sprint, middle or long distance events. Swimmers may have the opportunity to take part in Munster and / or Irish Team squad training.
Limerick Swimming Club participates in Galas throughout the Munster region. A schedule of events for the region is prepared at the beginning of the season. The events are graded to suit the different levels of ability and performance of swimmers as they progress through the squads.

Mungret was one of the first clubs formed in the Limerick County after the establishment of the G.A.A. and it was somewhat unique in that there were then, as there is today, two clubs in the same parish - namely Mungret and Crecora.
The club was very much to the fore in the early days of the G.A.A. but like many other clubs of the time the "Parnell split" took its toll on club membership with the result that the club disbanded.
The Mungret club was reformed in 1895. The club entered the 20th Century in great style winning the Ferrybridge Tournament. This was played in 1901 and is said to be the first trophy ever won by a Mungret team. In the final they beat Shamrocks by 2-11 to 0-2.
Like all clubs Mungret met lean times in their formative years. However Mungret G.A.A. club soldiered on and some years later the old spirit was rekindled with the club being re-formed again in 1929.
The Limerick Leader organised a school competition. The then Principal Mr.P.J .Larkin saw the benefit of this competition and entered a team. This was instrumental in sparking a G .A.A. revival in the parish. A Junior competition was organised and Mungret reached the final only to be beaten by Claughaun.
The clubs youth policy began to reap its rewards and Mungret school won the Leader Cup in 1930 and 1935. In between these victories tragedy struck with the death of the local teacher PJ .Larkin who had been instrumental in the clubs revival.
The first county championship was won in 1935 when the club won the Minor Championship. The club won the Junior Hurling title for the first time in 1937 and its first City title in 1945. The success story continued into the early fifties with the winning of the City Junior Hurling titles in 1951 and 1952.
In the early 1960's Mungret and Crecora joined forces and achieved some success particularly in the City Junior Hurling championship though failing in the County sections. In 1968 Mungret and Crecora went their separate ways and it was ironic that Mungret annexed the County Junior Title on their own in 1969. The 70's proved successful with the winning of the Intermediate and Minor Hurling titles in 1975.
On being reformed back in the late 20's the club flourished in the early years helped by its strong links with the local school. The club in the first few decades was mainly known for its achievements in hurling and enjoyed many successes at Juvenile, Minor and Junior level. Whilst Senior Hurling County success has so far eluded the club Mungret did contest two County semi-finals in the eighties. The most recent successes for the senior club were in 1993 when the club won the Premier Minor Hurling and the County U21 hurling titles and in 2006 when the city and county junior titles were taken.
Many players from the club have worn the Green Jersey of Limerick with distinction, with Liam O’Donoghue, Connie Keating, Mick Barron, Brian Tobin, Brian Begley and Dave Bulfin featuring at senior hurling level with Brian Begley and Darren Horan playing for the senior footballers.
On the football side the club went from Junior to Senior status in seven years winning the county junior title in 1990 after narrowly losing the final in the previous year and winning the intermediate crown in 1997 thus gaining the club Senior Football status for the first time ever. The County Senior league title was won in 1999 along with four city senior football titles in the decade from 1998 onwards.

Mungret AFC was founded in 1971 when a team was entered to play in the Desmond League and home pitch was the Sports and Social Club grounds of Irish Cement.
In 1972 the County Council gave the Club the use of the pitch that it is still using today, and at that time the Club also had the use of the area that is currently used by the neighbouring GAA Club. In 1982, the Club purchased the plot on which the Clubhouse is sited today, the Clubhouse being opened in 1984.
The Clubhouse has since been completely redeveloped and now boasts modern top class facilites.
The 10 years from 1988 to 1998 were a purple patch for the Club on the field:
- 1988 Premier League Champions
- 1992 Munster Youths Cup Runners-up
- 1994 Munster Junior Cup Winners
- 1996 FAI Junior Cup Runners-up
- 1997 Munster Junior Cup Runners-up
Numerous schoolboy trophies were also picked up over the years.
In 1997, the Club decided to convert the ground at the rear of the Clubhouse into an all-weather training area. Ground levels were raised, a fine-dust surface was laid and high netting and floodlights were installed.
During the 1990’s the Mungret Regional soccer nursery was started and now the Club has teams from under 7 to under 10 non-competitive and under-11 to under-16 schoolboys, plus junior mens and junior ladies teams.
2008-2009 has been a very successful season with the Junior Team winning promotionto the Premier League and many Schoolboy teams winning Leagues and Cups.
Club Secretary: Eugene Storan, 114 High Meadows, Gouldavoher, Co. Limerick.
Club Colours: The main Jersey colour is Black and Red, Black Shorts and Black Socks with red trim on top.

Shannon Rowing Club based on Sarfield Bridge, Limerick, is the oldest rowing Club in Limerick City. The club sits on a man made island with a back drop of King Johns Castle and St Mary’s Catherdral.
We are a rowing club, but our facility encompasses and caters for other sports and clubs, mainly snooker and chess.
Our home is in Limerick city, but we are lucky also to have a second location in Annacotty, Co. Limerick.
From the city we are based mid week where we do gym, bike and rowing machine work, and then on weekends we move to Annacotty to avail of a fantastic stretch of water. Annacotty is ideal, it is sheltered and is non tidal, this allows training at weekends to be at a set time and also adds a greater safety aspect to our rowing.

Founded in 1901, St Michael's Rowing Club is one of Ireland's Premier Rowing Clubs. It caters for oarsmen and oarswomen from Junior 12 to the more experienced “Masters”, some of whom are 60+ years young!
During the past three decades it has established itself as one of the major forces in Irish rowing by winning no less than 37 Championships at all grades from Junior to Senior.
The long 106 year wait came to an end in 2007 when the Club won the coveted Senior VIII “Big Pot” being the first crew to bring the trophy to Limerick in 80 years. It has had 197 of its members selected for International representation. Members have won 3 World Championships and have rowed at three Olympic Regattas. Unlike certain other successful Irish Rowing clubs, almost all its oarsmen and women are "home-grown" having commenced with the Club as Juniors.
Both competitive and less strenuous pleasure-rowing take place throughout the year.
The Club has a modern fleet of racing boats. These include 5 Eights, 6 Coxed Fours/Quads, 5 Coxless Fours/Quads, 6 Pairs/Doubles and 12 sculls. Land based facilities include a modern gymnasium and weights room. The Club also has 15 Concept II Model “D” ergometers.
St Michael's Rowing Club is part of St Michael's Sporting Club which also has snooker tennis facilities in the Cecil Street premises, which are located just below the General Post Office in Limerick City.
The Club colours are Royal Blue and Old Gold.
