Situated just 4KM outside Limerick City, the University of Limerick (UL) is a parkland campus spanning 130 hectares on a magnificent riverside location with the River Shannon as a unifying focal point. It is located near many local amenities offering students a wide range of shops and restaurants on and off the campus.

The campus is accessible by numerous transport links. Limerick has regular transport services to Cork, Galway, and Dublin. Or if you feel like going further afield, Limerick city is located just 20km from Shannon Airport and boasts some of the best connections across Europe, the USA, and the rest of the world.

UL has over 17,000 students and is an energetic and enterprising institution with a proud record for innovation and excellence in education, research, and scholarships. It is renowned for providing an outstanding student experience, with world-class facilities, the award-winning Cooperative Education Programme, and over 70 clubs and societies. The University welcomes over 3,000 international students from over 100 countries worldwide annually. As a University of Sanctuary, UL firmly believes a university education should be a possibility for all. UL focus on enabling access to third-level through several financial support plans and programmes to aid with the transition to University.

UL prides itself on being known as the home of firsts because many of the facilities are the first or only facilities in Ireland, some examples include the first seven weeks programme at UL, this programme is the first of its kind in Ireland and is designed to help students settle into university life with ease. UL is home to Ireland's first and only academic flight simulator and is Ireland’s largest post-primary teacher education provider. UL was the first university in Ireland to introduce Cooperative Education, paid work placement for undergraduate students as part of their degree, and has enjoyed an employment rate that has been higher than the national average for 10 consecutive years.

The University has twice been awarded best student campus in Ireland by the Irish Education Awards, in recognition of the student supports and the outstanding facilities which include: the Glucksman library, which is the most digitally advanced library in the world and one of Irelands largest campus libraries in Ireland. UL is home to Irelands first virtual trading floor simulator, the only university in Ireland to replicate a financial markets trading floor situation.

UL offers more than 70 undergraduate programmes across faculties such as Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Education and Health Sciences, Science and Engineering, and Business. The University also offers highly credited postgraduate programmes with more than 100 taught programmes to Doctoral and Post-doctoral levels.

The University of Limerick received an overall 5 stars in the influential QS Stars Rating System placing them in the top 2% of universities worldwide. UL was also awarded five stars in areas such as Inclusiveness, internationalization, research, teaching, employability, facilities, and innovation. UL also placed 50th worldwide in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021, which assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These 17 goals highlight best practices by universities to achieving a more sustainable world and preventing poverty, tackling climate change, providing sustainable cities, partnership goals, and protecting the planet. UL is ranked 10th globally for Sustainable Cities and Communities and is the top-ranking Irish university in this category. The University has also been awarded numerous Green Campus awards for its focus on sustainability. UL has been recognised for its improvements in introducing green initiatives by placing 17th in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. Campus life services is home to UL’s Green living residence offering students 6 on-campus accommodation villages. They seek to reduce their carbon footprint by engaging students in several environmental initiatives throughout the college year.

The University of Limerick holds many outstanding recreational and cultural exhibits on campus such as the renowned Anthony Gormley piece “Together & Apart”, National Self-Portrait Collection of Ireland, and the Bourn Vincent Gallery.  It is also home to the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.

UL has often been called ‘Ireland’s Sporting Campus’, both nationally and internationally. UL offers top-class facilities with an array of 3G and 4G artificial grass pitches, indoor and outdoor running tracks, as well as being the first University in Ireland to offer students an Olympic standard swimming pool and diving board, Ireland’s tallest climbing wall, back-to-back hurling walls and Europe’s largest all-weather sports field complex.
