Music Network: National Music Day 2010
*Ireland’s first National Music Day*, taking place Friday 16 April 2010.
Music Network is inviting venues, promoters, musicians, ensembles and community groups all over Ireland to participate in *Ireland’s first National Music Day*, taking place Friday 16 April 2010.
National Music Day is a celebration of all forms of music in Ireland though free nationwide music events. The day aims to promote access to music for all regardless of location or circumstance and to encourage active participation in music events. Events will range from performances by National performing groups, to Music in the Workplace events, to music workshops in schools, to Music in Public Spaces events.
Music Network will coordinate the day and will encourage participation from partners all over Ireland. A searchable listings will be available through the Music Network website and participants will be able to register events through the website following the launch in February 2010. Participating organisations will benefit on the event by engaging with a national marketing effort coordinated by Music Network.
National Music Day 2010 is an inaugural event and it is the intention of Music Network, with the support of national cultural stakeholders, to build on the success of the 2010 event to firmly establish National Music Day as a milestone in the annual events calendar. National Music Day provides an opportunity for all organisations to increase local, regional and national profile through engagement with an event of national scale in the first year of it’s existence.
/Music is a vital part of our cultural heritage and national identity.
National Music Day is intended as a celebration of music in Ireland in all its forms, and of the many, many musicians, groups and organisations working at both local and national level to bring the exhilarating experience of live music to members of the public throughout the country. Music Network hopes that National Music Day will galvanise the music and arts community to organise a diverse range of publicly accessible events that will highlight to all the value of music in Irish society. The success of the day is dependent on the active involvement of music groups and organisations working at ground level, so please do come on board and help us make this inaugural National Music Day an event to remember./
Music Network CEO Deirdre McCrea
The Arts Council’s extensive public consultation process in 2005 in preparation for the publication of its new strategy documents “Partnership for the Arts” and “Partnership for the Arts in Practice 2006-2008” identified support for the establishment of a National Music Day. The Arts Council has pledged to advocate to its music client organisations that they partner with Music Network and become involved in planning and running National Music Day events from 2010 onwards.
